Hi. My name's Matt Garrett and I've spent a lot of time searching the internet for useful tools to help run and promote my different web sites. Over the years I've found a lot of "crap", but I have also found some absolute essentials, fire wall software falls in to the later category.
As I am now having some success (and financial return from my efforts) I decided to share my discoveries and experience with anyone who may be interested, through a series of websites covering a variety of subjects that I have learnt about the hard way.
This site is dedicated to personal firewall software, or home firewall software as it is sometime called. A personal firewall system is probably the most important piece of software to have on your computer once you connect to the internet. Unless of course you really don't mind letting anyone with the relevant knowledge and software (easily found on the net) having full access to the files on your computer. A personal firewall software system is simply a home security system for your PC.
Fortunately the system that I have prefer and have used for a few years is not just one of, if not THE, best available it is also free to download and use for a personal or home PC.

have been using this personal firewall software for over three years
now, ever since I realized just how easily someone can get unauthorized
access to your computer while it's logged on to the internet. ZoneAlarm
allows you to decide exactly which programs on your computer have access
to the net and how much access you want to allow them.
When I first started using this excellent free firewall software it even informed me of a couple of programs that were running in the background that I wasn't even aware of, I still haven't managed to find out what one of them is or where it came from, but it doesn't matter as ZoneAlarm let me block it from sending or receiving any information via my internet connection.
It isn't just a personal firewall, it can also highlight any attachments on incoming email that you should be aware of in case they are viruses, again this has proven useful to me a number of times. The first time I ignored the warning I ended up with a nasty virus called Sircam32 on my PC. It cost me over a days work and some timely assistance from a friend to clean it off my PC. I now pay attention to the warnings.
Whenever I set up a new computer for a friend and get them connected to the internet the first thing I do is advise them about firewall software and why they should use it. Once I also explain that the best personal firewall software I know of, and use myself, is free to download, they always ask me to go ahead and download and install ZoneAlarm for them and show them how to use it.
